Something savoury for afternoon coffee/tea.

I use a lot of garlic in my cooking, especially for stir fried vegetables. Garlic is low in calories and very rich in Vitamin C, Vitamin B6 and Manganese. Garlic also contains antioxidants that protect against cell damage and ageing. It may reduce the risk of Alzheimer’s disease and dementia.

Garlic Cheesy Pull-Apart Bread Recipe - Straight Dough Method

Yield: 2 loafs

3½ cups bread flour
1 tbsp brown sugar
2¼ tsp active dry yeast
1¼ tsp salt
4 tbsp skim milk powder
2 tbsp olive oil
1 ¼ cups warm water
1 egg

2 – 3 tbsp butter (soften)
2 tsp dried oregano or mixed herbs
8 cloves garlic, chopped and salt to taste
125g shredded parmesan cheese


1.  In the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with the paddle attachment, add all the dough ingredients
and mix on medium speed for 10 to 15 minutes until the dough comes together and elastic.

2.Transfer the dough to a greased bowl, cover it with plastic wrap, and let it rise in a warm place until it has doubled in size, about 1 hour.

3.  Line 2 loaf pans with non-stick baking sheets or spray the loaf pans with cooking spray.
(a)  On a floured surface, roll the dough into a large rectangle (about 12x20 inches).
(b)  Brush the soften butter onto the dough, then spread with herbs , garlic and parmesan cheese.
(c)  Using a sharp knife, cut the rectangle of dough into 6 strips, and stack 3 strips on top of each other and repeat the same with the rest of 3 strips. Cut each stack into 4 equal smaller stacks.
(d)  Transfer all of the stacks into the prepared 2 loaf pans, placing them on their sides against each other so that the cut sides of the dough are on the outside.

4.  Cover the loaf with plastic wrap and let it rise in a warm place until it has doubled in size again, about 30 minutes. meanwhile, preheat the oven to 350 f (180 c)
5.  Bake the loafs in the oven for about 35 minutes, until it is golden.
6.  Remove loafs and immediately brush the remaining butter on top of the hot loafs.  Transfer loafs from pans and cool on rack.
